We have a 5 1/2 year old female dachshund Maggie. A few weeks ago she started letting out an occasional yelp, maybe one a day at most, but now showing any other signs of pain, she ate well, walked and jumped as usual. Then this past weekend, while laying down and not moving, she would yelp a lot as if she were in a lot of pain. She started walking slowly, and would no longer jump up onto chairs or the couch, she just wasn't herself, however she still ate well. We would try to figure out exactly what was bothering her by feeling around her, and she seemed to be bothered (but wouldn't cry) when we touched her behind or rear legs.
The vet said that looking at her breed and age and the description of her actions made him strongly suspect back problems, something putting pressure on her spine. But in the office he poked and prodded her, and could not make her yelp or seem uncomfortable, she seemed pretty normal.
They took x-rays today, and found nothing wrong at all, and the vet couldn't figure out what it was. He gave us an anti-inflammatory to give her to see if it helps. We'll try the drugs, but I'm sort of at a loss, and I hate to see her in pain, has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Thanks
