It has been 2 months now since it all began, and finally we can relax and breath. Brownie got really bad, she got 4 different types of pain medications and Prednisone. We went to a neurologist and she told us that Brownie would most likely need surgery that would cost a total of $3000. For some reason, we took time to decide even though she was in so much pain. Then we decided to give her up, tried to contact any organzations that might be able to take her in and help her. It was Christmas and everyone seemed to be either closed or already helping some other dog in need. We were devastated, leaving us with the only other option - to put her to sleep, to stop her pain. For some reason again (and being holidays) we delayed our option, and FINALLY, Brownie started to show improvements, little by little. We stopped giving her all the pain meds unless she was really bad, figured it would only numb the pain, making more damage than good. We continued giving her Prednisone and doggy Glucosamine tablets. Oh, my god... she was getting better and better... today 2 moths later, she is still not as she was before, but she is so happy, even starting to run a little.
Our concern now is, and potential question to someone who knows better, the neurologist told us that it could come back and since we opted out of surgery - what are the chances of it coming back again? Will it come back on the same spot? Has anybody done the same thing - opted out of surgery - then got the dog injured again? What did you do?
We are very blessed and thankful for the recovery, but can't help wonder for how long will it last? It was a tough 2 months.
